Today Team Unveils New On-Site Training Facility
When Today Team’s Managing Director Jamie Boyd decided to create a bespoke training hub at his company’s headquarters, he turned to his childhood friend – and fellow former Warrington Wolves player – Ste Pickersgill for expert help.
Ste, who heads up Trinity Facilities Management, assembled a crew of refurbishment specialists to transform a previously unloved and under-utilised room into a first-class training environment for Today Team employees.
“I am very grateful to Ste and the guys who were on-site,” says Jamie, who is a member of the Academy of Chief Executives. “They made my vision a reality and I’m confident that our new training space is going to benefit our workforce for years to come.”
Having seen the benefits of working with external partners such as a part-time on-site HR Director (Jayne Chadwick of People Puzzles Ltd) and a Performance Psychologist (Martin Robert Hall), Jamie recognised that continuing to invest in people was critical to the success of his organisational development strategy.
To ensure that employees were best supported to make the most of future coaching and learning opportunities, Jamie felt the need to have a dedicated training facility. A room which was used by temporary workers on a very occasional basis was identified as the perfect place, and Trinity Facilities Management were contracted to carry out the necessary work.
“Ste and I go as far back as our boyhood days, when we both played for Crosfields ARLFC,” recalls Jamie. “He has since become a very successful local businessman – delivering construction services to some of the biggest housing developers in the UK, as well as a wide range of renovation and refurbishment projects.
‘I was really impressed by how quickly Trinity Facilities Management came out to assess the room, and they sent over a very competitive quote nice and promptly. We always work with other Warrington businesses wherever possible to boost the local economy, so I was more than happy to sign off on the project.”
Major changes to the room include the addition of a new work station, which allows colleagues to escape the hustle and bustle that comes with a busy courier company. A projector and screen ensures that trainers have access to state-of-the-art equipment, while a large whiteboard on the wall invites people to map out their own road to success. The room is also soundproof – meaning that meetings and future interviews can be carried out on-site with the utmost confidentiality.
“One of my favourite elements is our new ‘Coaching Corner’,” says Jamie, who has completed a coaching diploma. “Sitting directly opposite someone is what’s known as the ‘conflict’ position. Evidence shows that people respond better to coaching when they are seated alongside each other, and they can see the door. For that reason, we’ve installed a comfy sofa, which I am hopeful will encourage more open, supportive conversations.”
The only remaining task is to ‘brand’ the room – painting it in the new company colours of blue and grey.
“It’s been a significant investment, but worth every penny,” adds Jamie. “The Trinity Facilities Management boys, John and Wayne, were really respectful of our day-to-day operational needs while the refurbishment was carried out. They kept all noise and mess to an absolute minimum, and made the whole process painless. I would not hesitate to recommend Ste and his staff to anyone.”
